The Update

So on 08-08-08 it was my 21st birthday (same day as the start of the Olympics)! Joe came home with red roses and surprised me with a trip to a spa up in Scottsdale! He had a babysitter lined up (Mike & Chrissy next door) and everything. We got a couple’s massage, it was SOOOO nice and very much needed. We also relaxed in the mineral pool and the steam room with eucalyptus. We then went out for dinner, but ate very quickly cuz we don’t like being away from Abby for very long.

Rewinding to 08-07-08, Abby got her two-month shots and mommy cried :( It was so sad! And nobody told us that the shots could cause loss of appetite, extreme fussiness, fever, etc. for several days! Poor Abby was screaming for a good 2-3 days and we couldn’t console her. She wouldn’t eat for several hours. We called the doctor and she said we could go ahead and give her infant Tylenol now, so I rushed to the pharmacy. Hours later she still wouldn’t calm down or eat so we called the doctor again, and she suggested giving her a bath. Instantly Abby calmed down and we gave her a bottle of pumped milk while she was in the tub. Thank heavens! It was so sad to see her like that.

A couple new things Abby’s doing now:

She’s really good at sticking her fists and fingers in her mouth. Sometimes she’ll stick them too far in and she’ll gag! It’s so funny cuz she’ll just stick both of her fists in front of her and stare at them in amazement. You can tell she’s concentrating really hard, then she’ll move one or both fists in toward her face and hit her eye or nose or chin, then she’ll maneuver it around til she hits her mouth. So cute!

When she’s sitting on mommy’s lap, if I position her just right I can let go and she’ll sit up on her own for a good 5-10 seconds. Wahoo!

She’s laughing now! It’s the cutest giggle. She laughed at my neighbor last week but I heard it from across the room, but was still so bummed that I missed it! So we’ve been trying so hard since to get her to laugh, and nothin’! Then, 4 days ago on Sunday, I was holding her and I sneezed and she giggled! So I kept on fake sneezing and she kept giggling! We couldn’t catch a good one on tape though :( She’s laughed a few times this week, again with the sneezes, but still can’t get a good one on tape. We’ll keep trying though.

Some things never change. The following are characteristics Abby’s had since day one!

“Look at all that hair!” my Mohawk baby.

“She’s SO alert!” Always wide-eyed, taking in everything.

She sneezes all the time (since day one), she’s probably allergic to AZ

She gets the hiccups at least once a day since day one.

The first time I saw her, she had her big ole’ bottom lip pushed out for a frown, she’s sported that pouty face when she’s sad ever since.

And she loves to flip people off, and we never notice til we look at the pictures later.

Well tomorrow we leave for our first trip with Abby! We’ll be going to NYC and staying there for 2 days, then we’re off to Nantucket and we’ll be hanging out on the beach. We’re excited, but I’m very nervous about it all.

Tired…

Wow, it’s been a crazy few weeks!

I got another cold and gave it to Abby again :(

Then our A/C went out for 2 days — it got up to 94 degrees IN OUR HOME! We were lucky enough to have amazing next door neighbors (Mike and Chrissy) with plenty of extra room that allowed us to stay with them.

During our stay my temporary crown fell off, so I ran around toothless for day until I could get to the dentist.

Joe’s been working late with Ghost Armor. The shipper person went out of town and Joe had to pick up the slack. Joe – the only one in the company that has a long commute, has a family to get home to, works another full time job that he has to wake up at 4:00 AM for.

I’ve been doing a bunch of stuff for Ghost Armor as well. Keeping very busy with customer service emails, payroll and accounting, and writing manuals. I also went up into town to help out Joe a few times.

Ooh! We had some family in town, Uncle Brent and Aunt Lisa and cousin Jordon, and we met up with them for some dinner and Abby time :)

Phew! I think Abby illustrates how we all feel.

One Spoiled Girl!

Now as many of you may know, Abigail is the 1st grandchild for 6 grandparents!! And they have all come out to meet our little angel.

First, my mom Sasha was here the week she was due. Since Abby was a little late, my mom was here for the birth and only one more day afterward :( But she was a huge help — walking miles around the mall while we were trying to induce, staying up all night at the hospital with me, taking pictures, helping me go to the bathroom after delivery, etc. — and I don’t know what I would have done with out her!

Next came Joe’s mom Samantha, she flew in the day my mom flew out, and stayed for about a week. Again, a huge help to us. As we were trying to figure out our new life with a baby, she cooked up a storm and maintained our house.

A little later on, my dad and step-mom Tim and Marie came with their kids, my siblings Hannah, Kate, and Philip – they stayed for about a week. It was so good to visit with them and they were a great help. Marie stayed up at night with Abby, helped with her first bath –and was the third person to experience Abby’s projectile pooping!

And last but not least, Joe’s dad and mom Joe and Lucretia came with two of their kids, Joe’s siblings Kim and Ashley – they stayed for about a week and a half. They came during the excitement of the 4th of July and Abby’s blessing. During this time they helped us host parties for both, and phew! that was quite the task! They also were the first babysitters as Joe and I left the baby with them to attend a dentist appointment.

We are so happy that they were all able to come out and meet Abigail. This girl was spoiled with loves!

4th of July!

For the 4th of July, we had a bunch of the Smith family over along with our neighbors for a BBQ and a swim and fireworks (fireworks were going off from the city park). It was tons of fun and Abby looked so cute in her 4th of July outfit!

Abigail given a name and a blessing

Abigail was blessed today at church by her daddy. Joe, his dad, my dad, and my uncle Jeff were in the circle. The angel didn’t cry or fuss at all during the blessing and she was so good all day. We had a bunch of friends and family (a lot of the Smith gang) join us at church then later on at our house for a Munch ‘n’ Mingle. It was so much fun and Abigail looked gorgeous in her fabulous dress! It was a special day that we’ll never forget.

Abby’s 1st Swim

Abigail had her first swim yesterday and she loved it! She was so relaxed the whole time, and she actually fell asleep. Check out the video. Joe’s parents and sisters and their dog were all in the pool too!

Smiling Girl

So for the last week or so our little girl has been giving us the most beautiful smiles!! She gives them to her daddy a lot when he makes funny noises… and she gives them to mommy a lot when she’s nursing. She is such a joy!!

Abby is also growing so fast! She has grown 1 1/4 inches and gained 8 oz in the last week! She’s now 23 1/2 inches and 9 lb 13 oz. Such a big girl! And she’s always getting comments about her alertness because her eyes opened wide and she’s paying attention and reacting…such a smart girl.

Baby Blessing

Abigail is getting blessed on July 6th. Sacrament starts at 8:30 AM, and a Munch ‘n’ Mingle is to follow at our home. If you did not receive an evite, please contact me with your email address so I can send an evite with all the addresses, directions, details, etc. We would love for you to join us for this special day!
